Perkins Eastman's Just Label Is Just the Beginning
In last year’s State of Sustainability report, we shared our goal to achieve the International Living Future Institute’s Just label for our US studios, and we have succeeded in earning the Just Label for our 17 US studios. This underscores our dedication to fostering a transparent workplace culture that prioritizes equity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.

The Just Label is more than a recognition of our efforts; it’s a diagnostic that guides us in assessing and refining our policies on inclusion, employee health, benefits, and stewardship. The process began in 2021 with a pilot effort to earn the label in our Washington, DC, studio—which we did in 2022. The studio’s success inspired a firmwide effort that involved multidisciplinary working groups and extensive data collection through surveys and policy reviews. It resulted in updates to our employee handbook, including enhancements to benefits, compensation, and environmental quality standards.
However, achieving the Just Label is not the end goal. It is the start of an ongoing journey. The label’s framework identifies areas of strength, such as gender pay equity, and areas in need of improvement, including equitable procurement practices (how we select and work with consultants, vendors, and suppliers). Our commitment requires continuous reassessment and accountability, with updated data submissions every two years to ensure we stay on track.
The label continues to be a vital benchmark, driving us toward a more inclusive and equitable future. Looking ahead, we are exploring the expansion of our Just Label efforts to incorporate our global studios.
