WELL Platinum
Sustainability Drives Our Operations
Reducing the carbon footprint of our operations—including both operational and embodied carbon—is central to our mission. Equally important is supporting the health and wellness of our staff in the way we work every day. The combination of these imperatives reflects our holistic approach to sustainability and resilience. We have made measurable progress, achieving operational carbon neutrality in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and advancing wellness initiatives in our studios. For example, our Chicago studio was recently recertified WELL Platinum, providing a model for how design can elevate health and well-being in addition to environmental performance.

CASE STUDY: "WELL" Done
Recertifying Perkins Eastman's WELL Platinum Chicago Studio
At the height of the pandemic in November 2020, Perkins Eastman’s Chicago office became WELL Certified Platinum. This year, following a process of reviewing and retesting indicators within the WELL criteria, we received our first recertification through the WELL system.
Carbon in Operations
For the second consecutive year, Perkins Eastman achieved operational carbon neutrality, offsetting all Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Our complete GHG inventory—including Scopes 1, 2, and 3—is third-party verified to ensure transparency and accuracy.

We select carbon offset projects through a careful vetting process to align with our ethos—prioritizing opportunities for impact and engagement. In 2024, we brought this work closer to home and connected our offset projects with hands-on engagement. Our Pittsburgh studio partnered with the Allegheny Land Trust to plant 70 native trees and shrubs in the Buena Vista Heights Conservation Area—demonstrating that global goals take root locally. We also launched a firmwide initiative to measure and reduce carbon across all our studios. Each location now tracks its performance in six key areas: energy, waste, purchasing, commuting, indoor environmental quality, and social responsibility.

Looking ahead, we are developing a Low-Carbon Transition Plan to guide long-term emissions reductions, including Scope 3, which makes up most of our footprint. This plan expands beyond our own operations; we are engaging with our partners and vendors to advance shared goals that strive for absolute carbon neutrality.

Firmwide progress requires participation across all our studios globally. That is why education and knowledge-sharing are core to this transition—ensuring we each understand our role and are empowered to contribute to our firm’s collective climate goals.

Carbon Offsets
2024 OFFSETS PORTFOLIO
Carbon offsets remain a necessary part of our climate strategy—not a free pass, but a tool to support measurable action while we work to reduce our emissions. Our carbon offset portfolio is intentionally diversified and includes both carbon removal and avoidance projects, using nature-based and technological strategies. Each selection prioritizes integrity, impact, and benefits that go beyond carbon.
